This Stepik course will serve as an introduction to computer programming in Java. These Stepik lessons are meant to supplement Dr. Schrum's in-person computer programming course. The content was primarily developed and authored by Dr. Arjun Chandrasekhar.

This course covers the basics of computer programming in Java. We will learn about basic input/output operations, data types, control flow, object-oriented programming, and recursive data and functions.

The main audience for this course is students who are taking Dr. Schrum's in-person computer programming courses, but anybody is welcome to attempt these practice problems.

This course assumes basic familiarity with high school algebra. Otherwise there are no prerequisites. In particular, no prior computer programming knowledge is assumed.

You should complete all of the reading quizzes the week before Dr. Schrum covers those topics in lectures. You should then complete all of the practice problems after learning the material, in order to help prepare you for programming projects and exams.
